Today it was announced by ASPHALT MEDIA owner Robbie Devore that ASPHALT MEDIA will be moving on from hosted iRacing sessions. ASPHALT MEDIA is the base series for MC Motorsports. We fielded 3 full-time cars as well as 6 additional part-time opportunities across various drivers. ASPHALT MEDIA has been very successful for us. We have racked up 56 wins as a team across 4 different drivers. Marty Cmejla contributed 45 wins, Daniel Mosteller with 8 wins, Patrick Connell with 2 wins, and Cameron Face was able to get at least a win with the team in his short tenure. Marty Cmejla ends off as the 4th winningest driver in ASPHALT MEDIA history, only 4 wins off of Jacob Malone who has 49 wins.
With all of this being said, MC Motorsports has no choice but to end ASPHALT MEDIA operations, as there simply is no more ASPHALT MEDIA racing to come. With this, Cameron Face unfortunately will not be racing with MC Motorsports anymore, unless an NR Night deal comes together. Our All-Star program will be essentially non-existent as we don't field them often in NR Night in America.
Additionally, MC Motorsports will be forced to go back to NR Night in America as our base-series. Unfortunately, NR Night in America is also slowing down compared to a year ago. NR Night in America used to have a guaranteed 4 races every night, but now it's only 3. They also don't race that often anymore as series owner Jonathan Ramos has real-life commentating priorities. Marty Cmejla has only 2 wins in about 500 NR Night in America starts, so the winning will be significantly less here at MC Motorsports.
Well why did ASPHALT MEDIA shut down? It has to do with an unfortunate series of butterfly effects. Back in early February was the ASPHALT 500. Owner Robbie Devore spent over $1,000 getting the event set up and promoted. The speedweeks process was great, there was lots of hype and excitement. It was all until a last second decision to let Michael Mitcham race was developed. Mitcham hadn't raced any speedweek events, therefore was not guaranteed a spot. Mitcham has over 100 ASPHALT MEDIA wins and is the winningest ASPHALT driver, so Robbie gave him a spot. The community was upset.
Unfortunately, throughout the race, all the scenarios, the crashes, the possibilities and outcomes, led to the worst-case-scenario for a finish. It comes down to thw two winningest ASPHALT MEDIA drivers: Michael Mitcham, and Daniel Mosteller. Note that most of the community does not want Mitcham to win as they feel he wasn't "Deserved" to be in the race. Coming to the checkers, Mosteller makes a move to the inside of Mitcham in the tri-oval. Mitcham proceeds to door-slam Mosteller, and Mitcham crosses the line first.
We've seen moves like this hundreds of times in ASPHALT MEDIA. Even Marty Cmejla has door slammed and blocked numerous drivers for wins. But, on this night, due to community outrage for Mitcham being in the race in the first place, the owner and race moderators folded and gave the win and $200 prize money to Daniel Mosteller. Robbie a month later revealed that Mitcham should have won and he was "not sure what moderators were thinking."
This was the beginning of the end. After this, Marty Cmejla proceeded to have the best run of his ASPHALT MEDIA career. Remember, Cmejla was not in the ASPHALT 500. Cmejla, in the span of February to the end of ASPHALT MEDIA, picked up 6 wins, a record for a 30-day span of time. He also went on a 15-race Top 6 streak, tying a career record from 2024 January. "It was the last pump before the end," Cmejla said.
Cameron Face was also signed in February. Cameron Face also had a great run of Top 10s and even picking up an incredible win at Richmond. "I am supper happy that Cameron Face at least had the chance to get one win with MC Motorsports. It's unfortunate because he would have gotten a lot more," Cmejla said.
We were also looking forward to new tenures with Patrick Connell and new sponsors. Patrick Connell recently had a new deal of driving Full-Time for MC Motorsports with ONLY the Trucks, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks. Connell finished 3rd in his first, and only, truck race under this deal, and even had a 2nd place at Slinger with the Mini Stocks.
Additionally, we recently acquired a new partnership with Fox Valley Mosquito & Tick Control. With this company we were hoping for more ASPHALT MEDIA domination. Unfortunately, we only got the chance to run 1 race with this sponsor in ASPHALT MEDIA. FVMTC will be our main sponsor going forward in NR Night in America.
On the bright side, Cmejla was able to pick up 2 wins in the little races ASPHALT MEDIA held before the shutdown. Cmejla beat Jordan Herring by less than 0.0009 to win at Indianapolis with the IndyCars. Right after that race, Cmejla won the last official ASPHALT MEDIA race, with the Ray FF1600s at Circuit de Ledenon in a last-corner thriller against Eric LaBombard. "It's awesome to get to that 45-win-mark with these last 2 wins."
What does the future hold? Recently MC Motorsports has averaged only 5-10 NR Night in America races each month. This trend is expected. But, with the recent news, this can be big for NR Night in America operations. With ASPHALT shutting down, it leads us with more time and options to expand on our NR Night in America program. Expect new full-time signings in NR Night in America to come soon.
Additionally, on the real-life side of things, Cmejla hopes to begin real-life racing tenures this spring and summer. At local race tracks Slinger Speedway and Wisconsin International Raceway, Cmejla has been talking to teams trying to get an opportunity to work on a racecar and to eventually potentially get behind the wheel. More time is freed up with ASPHALT going away for all sorts of new tenures and opportunities.
Finally, our new series, SimStock, will continue to grow. SimStock is a series owned by Marty Cmejla that only runs Street Stocks and Mini Stocks at various tracks. With ASPHALT going away, racers will look for anything to race on weeknights, and SimStock will be their solution. While we aren't allowed to field cars in SimStock, and Cmejla can't race as he owns it, we still look forward to hosting a series of our own here at MC Motorsports, with weekly YouTube streams, content, and new videos.
It's unfortunate. But there comes a time when we must move on. ASPHALT MEDIA was not going to go on for the rest of our lives, and nor can this team or iRacing in general. We thank Robbie Devore for his contributions to the team by running ASPHALT MEDIA impressively for all these months, even when times were tough. But eventually, it got too much and now we all must move on to new beginnings.
